ABOUT THE MKUTANO COMPANYWe began with conferences. We became storytellers.
Mkutano means gathering for a purpose. We started by convening the people who shape Africa's economy, and learned that the room is where the work begins. What leaders say to each other counts for most once it is shaped into an argument and carried to those who were not there.
That is Gather, Shape, Share. Our focus is Africa. We work from Kampala across the continent, on the sectors that decide its long-term prosperity, and we hold that African institutions should frame their own story before someone else frames it for them. Narratives are of consequence: they decide where capital and policy flow.

Who we are
The Mkutano Company (TMC) is a media, convening and advisory company based in Kampala, Uganda. We run the Economic Mkutano and its sector franchises, produce Perspectives, Insights, Drum In, The Mkutano Weekly and Mkutano Film, and operate the Tukutane event platform.
For personal data collected through this website, our own convenings and our newsletter, TMC is the data controller. We are registered with the Personal Data Protection Office (PDPO) under registration number available on request.

What we collect
We collect only what you give us to take part:
How we use it, and on what basis
We process personal data with your informed consent, which you give when you register or subscribe, and only to run the event or service you asked for: admitting you, building your agenda, suggesting people to meet, sending event alerts and, if you subscribed, sending the newsletter.
You can withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect anything done lawfully before it.
How long we keep it
We do not keep a standing database of delegates. Personal data needed to run an event is held only for that event and is deleted or de-identified within [30] days of its close, as the Act requires data to be kept no longer than necessary.
Anonymised, aggregated statistics, which cannot identify anyone, may be kept to report on and improve our convenings. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.
Anonymised analytics
Organisers see totals, percentages and trends: registrations by sector, attendance, session ratings, meetings booked. They never see an individual's activity. Figures based on fewer than [10] people are withheld so that no one can be singled out.
Tukutane, white-label and licensed events
When Tukutane runs an event for another organiser, whether it is a white-label conference we curate or a licensed event, that organiser is the data controller and TMC acts as its data processor under a written agreement. The organiser's own privacy notice applies alongside this one, and we process delegate data only on its instructions.
The same limits apply on every Tukutane event: no personal data kept beyond the event, and anonymised analytics only.
AI matchmaking and automated decisions
Matchmaking suggests people you may want to meet, based on the profile and sessions you choose. Suggestions are only suggestions: you decide whom to meet, and no decision with legal or similar effect is made about you by automated means alone.
You can turn matchmaking off in your profile. You also have the right to ask that decisions about you are not based solely on automated processing; we respond to such requests within 21 days.
Deal room
The deal room is restricted to parties an organiser has approved and who accept its confidentiality terms. Documents remain the property of the parties who upload them. AI summaries are provided for convenience, may be incomplete and must not be relied on instead of the source documents.
Nothing in a deal room is an offer of securities or investment advice, and TMC does not act as a broker or adviser in any transaction.
Who we share it with
We share personal data only with service providers who help us run events and the platform, such as hosting, email and ticketing providers, under contracts that bind them to the same standards; with the organiser of an event you register for; and where the law requires it. We do not sell or rent personal data.
Transfers outside Uganda
Where a service provider processes data outside Uganda, we transfer it only to countries with protection at least equivalent to the Act, or with your consent, as Section 19 of the Act requires.
Security and breaches
Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited to people who need it, and deal-room documents are shared only with approved parties. If we believe personal data has been accessed without authority, we notify the Personal Data Protection Office immediately and tell the people affected.

Children
Our convenings and platform are for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed for the site and the Tukutane app to work, and privacy-friendly measurement that does not identify you. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Using this site
This site is run by The Mkutano Company from Kampala, Uganda. Its content is general information, not investment, legal or policy advice. You may not scrape, mirror or misrepresent it. Where we link to third-party services, their own terms apply.
Registrations and payment
Registering reserves your place; payment is a separate step and is never a precondition for registering. Paid seats (US$100 per delegate) are confirmed when payment clears or when we accept an invoice request in writing. Invited guests hold complimentary places, confirmed when we accept their online registration in writing, and no payment is due. Prices are in US Dollars, settled in Uganda Shillings at our booking rate, and include VAT where applicable. You may substitute a named delegate at any time before the event at no cost. Approved invoices are payable within 14 days unless we agree otherwise in writing.
Changes, cancellations and refunds
If you cancel: a full refund up to 30 days before the event, 50% up to 14 days before, and inside 14 days your pass stays transferable to a colleague or to the next edition but is not refundable. If we postpone or cancel an event, you choose a full refund or a transfer. If a venue, date or speaker changes, the ticket terms stay the same.
Filming and photography
Our events are filmed and photographed, and attending means you may appear in event media we publish. If you would rather not be filmed, tell the registration desk on arrival and we will accommodate you wherever the format allows.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise, our total liability for any claim connected with this site or an event is capped at the fees you paid us for that event, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Uganda, and disputes go to the courts of Kampala. If any clause is found unenforceable, the rest stand. Questions about these terms: info@themkutano.com.
